District One Quarterly Meeting
Buena Vista Rescue Squad Building
January 27, 2002
On January 27, 2002, we attended the District One Meeting hosted by the Buena Vista Rescue Squad. The "call" was held at the Parry McCluer High School gymnasium. EMT-ST's John Ellington and Lisa Rogers, EMT Shane Watts, and Junior Member Sommer Rogers composed the EMT team.
The call was dispatched as this:
You have been dispatched to 1760 ½ Beach Road, a high rent district. The dispatcher states a woman called 911 screaming, "He thought he could fly, he thought he could fly." I need an ambulance and hangs up. The dispatcher is not able to contact the caller again.
Your response time to the scene is 5 minutes. The closest hospital is 15 minutes away. It is 8:00 p.m. on Super Bowl Sunday. The weather is cold and windy, and there is still ice on the ground from a snow storm from earlier.
The wife of the patient is your only bystander. The wife is EXTREMELY FRANTIC!!!
There is a 15 minute time limit.Good Luck.
Faced with this scenario, the EMT Team goes to work...

Lisa and John assess the patient.

"Get that C-Spine stabilized"

Shane gets the backboard ready.

John gets a set of vitals.

Everyone log rolls the patient to get him on the backboard.
John checks the patient's back prior to rolling him back.

The patient is on the board.

Shane straps the patient to the backboard -

And gets ready to move him to the stretcher.

After the patient was moved to the stretcher, another set of vitals are taken.

John gets the patient's blood pressure.

The call has been concluded.
The judges (the guys in the blue shirts) go over the evaluation sheet.

Shane kicks back following the call.

The patient after the call. Look closely and you can see "moulage" stuck in his hair.

Following the exercise, we retire to the Buena Vista Squad
Room for the banquet luncheon.
There, we run into Glenn Drumheller. He is selling us tickets for the
50-50 drawing.
If you should happen to run into him, ask him why they call him, "Donkey"
;->

There was a decent turnout. Squads from all over the district are in attendance.

In addition to the EMT contest, we also submitted a "Call
of the Quarter".
William picks up the trophy for the squad.

John, Shane, and Sommer were among the first on the scene for the call that was submitted.
