The week of May 19-25 was National EMS Week.  In celebration of that, we hosted an EMS Day on Saturday, May 25, 2002.  Among the displays and attractions were demonstrations placed by members of the Westvaco Rescue Squad and the Buena Vista Fire Department.

We would like to thank those individuals and organizations that helped make our celebration a success.

Displays

The displays we had involved ponyrides, Chute to Thrill Ultralights, Natural Bridge Fire Department, Red Cross Bloodmobile, Todd's Barbecue, Central Shenandoah EMS Council, McGruff, the National Guard, County One, and the Kerr's Creek Fire Department's Smoke House.

Other displays included the Glasgow Fire Department Thermal Imager, Central Shenandoah Planning Commission, and the Glasgow Library Committee.

Fun and Games

We ran a few kiddie game booths.  The Buena Vista Fire Department ran a coloring contest.

Rappelling Demonstration

Members of the Westvaco Rescue squad demonstrated rappelling techniques.  The scenario involved an unconscious person recovery.

Vehicle Extrication Demonstration

Members of the Westvaco Rescue Squad and the Buena Vista Fire Department demonstrated a vehicle extrication involving three patients.  The scenario involved a T-bone impact.

Parade

Our parade had a decent turnout.  Republican Speaker of the House of Delegates, Vance Wilkins was the Grand Marshal for our parade.  Following the parade, he gave a speech about EMS.

Music

Deamus Anderson and Dennis Watkins arranged the musical entertainment for the day.  The bands,  "Saw Mill Gang" and "Country Friends" played music through the day.
