MVA - Route 501, One mile north of Route 130
January 29, 2002
The driver of this vehicle was driving north on 501. Apparently, he drove off the side of the road. When he attempted to correct himself, he overcorrected, which caused his vehicle to go into a lateral slide. This caused the vehicle to go into a roll. While the vehicle was rolling, the driver was ejected and landed on the road. Life-Guard 10 was called to the scene. As we understand it, the driver was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital and placed into the Neuro-ICU unit. Sadly, the driver died two days later from massive head trauma.

Good Handle of the call. You would be surprised how many people use nasal airways on patients who have, not only a MOI indicative of head injury, but signs and symptoms of head injury. I must have seen it thrice on that documentary show of the discovery channel, "Paramedics." I was happy to hear that you used an oral airway. And good thinking to get that in soon-some people will just over look it. Snoring respirations in an unconscious patient with a clogged airway-appropriate treatment. Good Crew!
