Prehospital Patient Care Report
PPCR

Effective on July 1, 2000, we of the Glasgow Life Saving and First Aid Crew, in addition to all Fire and Rescue Agencies in Virginia, are now required to submit a PPCR from each patient to the state for statistical information.

How does this affect you?
It does not change the quality of care that we provide to the patients, rather this change provides a means to evaluate the EMS system in the state.

What is the PPCR?
The PPCR is a form, commonly referred to as the "Runsheet" or "Callsheet", that contains information concerning the call that was answered.

What kind of information is being collected on the PPCR?
The PPCR has 58 data elements, a complete listing of which can be found here.

Who is collecting the information?
The Virginia Department of Health operating under the authority of the Code of Virginia has established the Emergency Medical Services Patient Care Information System to oversee the collection of this information.
See Statute §32.1-116.1.

How does this work with HIPAA?
The HIPAA Privacy Rule permits an ambulance service to report a patient's treatment, medical history, and disclose protected health care information to the hospital without the patient's authorization.
