A 911 Hang up is when a person calls 911 at the Emergency Operations Center and hangs up before the dispatcher can determine if there is a problem. Usually fire and police are dispatched to the scene as well.
Abdominal Pains is any medical call where the patient is complaining of pain in the abdominal area whether from internal or external causes.
An assault is the physical striking of one person by another.
An auto accident is any accident involving a motor vehicle, whether it is single or multi-car.
Burns are classified as either chemical or thermal, penetrating or non-penetrating. but for our purposes, they'll just be classified here as "Burns".
A "Chest Pain" call refers to any person experiencing chest pains due to a cardiac problem IE a history of heart attacks.
A code is a patient that has no pulse, no blood pressure, and no respirations. Hopefully a bystander has initiated CPR on this type of patient.
Difficulty Breathing refers to any patient that has shortness of breath (SOB), asthma, or congestion in the lungs that restrict the movement of air.
A DOA is a patient that is Dead-On-Arrival.
Falls are calls where the patient fell and injured him/herself. Usually abrasions and lacerations are the result. With the elderly, a possibility of femur (hip) fractures exist.
Fires are any call where the presence of, or the possibility exists, of a fire. We usually respond for the benefit of the fire fighters and we transport as needed.
Fractures and dislocations are calls where the patient has dislocated, fractured, or broken any bone in the body.
General Illnesses differ from a Medical Emergency in that the cause is generally not immediately known. An example of this would be the "weak and dizzy" presenting patient. The "Medical Emergency" is an all-purpose classification. It can be anything from a simple bee sting to a full blown anaphylactic shock. Any call that necessitates a code-2 or code-3 response that is not otherwise classified, is a medical emergency.
A GSW is a Gun Shot Wound. It is any injury that is caused by a firearm.
An OB/Gyn call is any call that involves any complications arising from an obstetrical or gynecological nature such as pregnancy or an imminent delivery.
An overdose occurs when a patient ingests a drug (legal or illegal), or alcohol to a point where their level of consciousness is altered, or when a serious health risk is realized.
Personal Injury is any call where the patient through his/her own actions is directly responsible for injuring his/herself.
Seizures, and stroke-CVA are calls for those who are experiencing either seizures, or a stroke.
A Standby is when a medical presence is needed for parades, football games, company picnics, and so on.
Syncope is when a patient briefly loses consciousness or has a fainting spell.
A Transport is performed when a patient is transported to a location other than the hospital. An example is when we would take a little old lady to her doctor for an appointment.
Miscellaneous calls are those, otherwise unlabelled calls that happen infrequently.
BLS refers to Basic Life Support. This type of call requires only basic interventions such as backboarding, splinting, bleeding control, and oxygen therapy.
ALS refers to Advanced Life Support. This type of call requires advanced interventions such as IV therapy, ECG monitoring, medication administration, and intubation.
